The Rainbow Ombak Chair is Sungai Design's most vibrant product yet, crafted from six distinct colors of plastic bags, all collected by hand from Indonesia’s rivers.
The Rainbow Ombak shares the same design as our classic Ombak chair, with the same comfortable seating. What sets it apart is its vibrant palette: six distinct colors of plastic waste, each carefully sourced and crafted. This bold colorway makes each chair unlike any other, a joyful, one-of-a-kind twist on a timeless design.
Each color tells its own story. Some, like red and blue, are more common in Bali's rivers. Others, like orange and purple, are rare finds that took months of dedicated cleanup efforts to find. In total, over 2,000 plastic bags are used to make each chair, with about 330 bags per color transformed into our vivid, recycled panels. Once the panels are cut into intricate pieces, every chair takes hours of hands-on craftsmanship to achieve a silky-smooth finish.
These chairs are a testament to the possibility of sustainability in design, proving that beauty and eco-consciousness can go hand in hand.
